Are you prepared for new mental health laws?

Legislation could finally be catching up with the needs of the 21st century workforce, with the Stevenson/Farmer Review of Mental Health and Employers advising the Government to take action on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. Backed up by copious research which tells us that mental health is as important as physical health for employees, it could soon become compulsory to have a Mental Health First Aider in every organisation where a physical first aider is required…and companies who don’t act now will risk falling behind the curve.

“We believe the business case is strong enough for many employers who want to do more to support the mental health of their employees, but just do not know where to start.”

Thriving at Work: The Stevenson/Farmer review on mental health and employers

How we can help

At Espirita, we believe that a healthy, happy workforce is more than just something that is “nice-to-have”. Studies tell us that 1 in 4 people suffer from a mental health issue during their working life. This equates to over £30 billion lost to UK businesses annually, so companies acting now will not only get ahead of any potential legislative changes but also benefit in the short term from upskilling their teams in this vital area.

“Mental health enhanced standards recommendation #4: Ensure provision of tailored in-house mental health support and signposting to clinical help, including digital support, employer-purchased Occupational Health or Employee Assistance Programmes, or NHS services, amongst other sources of support.”
